The body needs B-complex vitamins for energy production, blood cell synthesis, healthy nervous system function, and many other metabolic processes. *

Most of the B vitamins you can find are formulated in their non-active form, which is cheaper, but may have limited absorption in the body. To enhance absorption, my vitamin B complex formula is activated in its co-factor form or "coenzymes".

Vitamin B2 Riboflavin vs. Riboflavin 5'-phosphate (R5P).

To be used by the body, Vitamin B2 (Riboflavin) must first be converted to its active form: Riboflavin 5'-phosphate (R5P). Riboflavin 5'-phosphate in my Activated B Vitamin Complex provides a supplemental form of riboflavin ready for optimal tissue absorption. *

Why take active B vitamins? A compromised digestive system can negatively affect the body's ability to convert riboflavin to R5P (its usable form by the body). * Certain prescription medications can also compromise the absorption of riboflavin, putting it in a deficient state.

Vitamin B3 Niacin vs. Niacinamide Inositol (Active Vitamin B3)

Niacinamide Inositol is the active form of Niacin. Niacinamide is often used to promote a state of calm and to assist in the metabolism of excess adrenaline in the body.

Vitamin B6 Pyridoxine vs. Pyiridoxal-5-phosphate (P5P)

Pyridoxal-5-phosphate (P5P) is the active form of Pyridoxine Vitamin B6. Unactivated Vitamin B6 must be converted within the body by the liver to P5P to be effective.

The body can convert Vitamin B6 to P5P, its active form, but certain genetic defects can hinder this process by creating deficiencies. Pyridoxal phosphate (P-5-P) is the active co-enzyme that drives more than 140 enzymatic reactions

Pyridoxal Phosphate (P-5-P) supports the heart, immunity, mental health, and cognition. P-5-P drives the activity of over 100 enzymes in your body and is especially important for brain health.

Vitamin B9 (Folic Acid vs. 5-MTHF (L-5-methyltetrahydrofolate)

The active form of folic acid is 5-MTHF (L-5-methyltetrahydrofolate). Many people are deficient because they have intestinal or liver dysfunction, or because they are among the three in five Americans whose genetic makeup makes it difficult for them to convert folic acid to active 5-MTHF. *

5-MTHF contributes to the production of serotonin, melatonin, dopamine, epinephrine and norepinephrine, supplementation can support a healthy mood. *

It's important for a woman of childbearing age to get enough folic acid, not just those women planning to become pregnant. * Because half of all pregnancies are unplanned, any woman who can become pregnant should get enough folic acid every day.

Folic acid intake is especially important before conception and during early pregnancy, as its greatest need is during the first trimester, when a woman may not even know she is pregnant. Supplementation with the active form of folic acid, 5-MTHF (L-5 methyltetrahydrofolate), is always preferable.

Vitamin B12 Cyanocobalamin vs Active B12 Methylcobalamin

Methylcobalamin is the most bioavailable type of vitamin B12, which means it is more easily absorbed by the body.

Cyanocobalamin is a synthetic form of vitamin B12 found only in most lower quality supplements. Cyanocobalamin is a man-made form of vitamin B12 that the body has to convert to the active forms of methylcobalamin in order to use it. Cyanocobalamin B12 contains a cyanide molecule that gives it stability while activated vitamin B12 in its methylcobalamin form is recognizable by the body as being in its natural state.

TMG (trimethylglycine)

Betaine anhydrous or TMG (trimethylglycine) is known to facilitate methylation processes.* Methylation is a normal biological process that is critical for DNA repair, liver detoxification mechanisms, lipid metabolism, and the production of SAMe.* It is also an important step in the conversion of homocysteine, a harmful amino acid, into a more friendly amino acid, methionine.* TMG supplementation has been shown in clinical and non-clinical trials to support healthy levels of homocysteine that are already are within the normal range.*

Myo-Inositol

Inositol is a non-essential member of the B-Complex family with dietary sources from plant and animal foods. The form of Inositol used for this formula is Myo-Inositol, the most abundant form of this nutrient.

Inositol is found in all cell membranes, with the highest concentrations in the brain and central nervous system, where it plays an important role in neurotransmitter signaling. * Inositol is also critical for proper insulin action, lipid metabolism, and for the maintenance of cellular calcium balance. *
